How long have you been in business?
Charleston local, Mary Peters, MS, CMC, started Care For Life in 1995.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide certified geriatric care managers who are medical professionals with a focus on helping the elderly and their families plan for long term care. We staff over 90 trained in-home caregivers whom we bond, insure and monitor closely for quality assurance. We provide transition care from hospital to home.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Mary Peters, MS, CMC, trained as an occupational therapist and worked in OT in hospitals and as a hospital administrator. She became concerned how persons without family caregivers are able to remain in the comfort and safety of their own homes rather than go to a nursing home. She decided to open a care management and homecare agency in Charleston and has established Care For Life as the local expert in eldercare.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our focus is on geriatric care management by nurses and social workers. We help families assess their situation and make recommendations and offer referrals to resources. Following a comprehensive assessment our care managers closely monitor our trained, bonded and insured caregivers throughout our services to the client. Communication with medical providers is a big part of our services also.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We operate out of our offices at 1033-C Wappoo Road in West Ashley, however our caregivers serve the entire tri-county area of greater Charleston.
What type of payments do you accept?
Credit cards, checks, Veterans benefits, grants from Trident Area Agency on Aging and Alzheimer's and MS Associations.
Which areas do you service?
Charleston tri-county area. From Moncks Corner to Downtown and West Ashley, to all of the Islands around the city.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Mary E. Peters, MS, CMC is owner and President.
What are your hours of operation?
Our office hours are 800a to 430p Monday thru Friday, but our care is up to 24/7. Our after-hours and weekend on-call number is 843-442-7676 and is staffed by a team member.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The greatest compliment is a referral from a client's physician or a former client. We love to hear, "Your nurse, social worker, caregivers and office personnel exceeded our expectations in every possible way. I have my life back."
